A young thief, Ethan James, gets more than he bargained for after stealing a priceless relic. He is forced to work with Ash Stephanos, an expert on Egyptian antiquities, to free himself from the grasp of a vindictive ancient God.

Ash offered Ethan a lucrative job, to steal a priceless artifact from the British Museum.

Ethan found Manny in his study.
“How’d it go with your Greek?” Manny peered at him over the top of his half specs
Ethan pulled up the spare chair and propped his feet up on the table. “He’s not my Greek.”
“If you say so." Manny grinned.
“I told him I wouldn’t do it.” Ethan picked up the sword shaped letter opener and cleaned the dirt  from under his fingernails.
“I already passed it off to Reddich.”
Ethan’s feet hit the wooden floor with a thud. “What the hell did you do that for? I wouldn’t trust him to find his dick let alone  with a job this size.”
“Stephanos is determined and I knew you wouldn’t touch it so
Ethan cut Manny off mid flow. “Please tell me that fools not thinking of taking Ash with him?”
“Ash? On first name terms are we? Manny’s eyebrow hiked into his hairline. “Stephanos is putting up good money. It makes sense, especially in today’s climate.”
“I don’t give a damn what he’s offering, tell Reddich to back off and I’ll sort Stephanos out.”

This scene takes place right after Ash's visit to Manny. Ethan and Ash are sitting in Ash's Shelby Cobra.

In profile Ash was striking. With his strong features, square jaw, and perfect tanned skin, Ash would not look out of place on the cover of GQ. “So you’re saying you have to be a believer for magic to work?” Ethan asked.
“This is the 21st century, Ethan. Most scoff at the thought of magic, however we all believe in something, whether it be faith, science, luck, karma. Call it what you will. Life is designed around certain rituals. We follow our path to its end. Was it by chance or circumstances that made you a thief?”

Chance or circumstances? Ethan tucked a stray strand of hair behind his ear as repressed memories surged forward.  He licked his lips and forced a smile as he replied “Neither. Careers day came and went, nothing interested me until Manny came along.”

This unedited scene takes place in Manny's  home. Manny is Ethan's fence, and thinks of Ethan as the son.

Ash didn’t wait for an invitation as he pushed his way inside and past the recently wakened man. He cast a disapproving glare at Manny’s disheveled appearance. The blue plaid robe hung open, exposing the worn t-shirt and baggy gray boxers. “I want it back,” he demanded.

“Well good morning to you too, sunshine.” Manny pulled his robe together and tied the belt.

“I hire you to do a job and you have the nerve to set me up as a mark?” Ash shoved Manny into the wall.

“Watch your tone with me boy.” To emphasize his point Manny pressed the tip of his stiletto to Ash’s groin. “Wouldn’t want me to think you were threatening me in my own home.” Manny gave a toothy grin.

Ash raised his hands and took a step back. “Your reputation precedes you. My apologies, sir.” A secondary lapse of concentration as Manny gave a triumphant smile was all it took. The knife nicked his flesh as he wrestled it from Manny’s hand then held the blade to Manny’s throat. “Consider your life collateral old man until my scarab is returned.”

This unedited scene takes place in the Egyptian exhibit at the British Museum. Ethan's first encounter with Ash.

Ethan took one last look around as he strode towards the exit. He may be a thief, but this collection was the rape and theft of a country's heritage on a grand scale. He brushed past the pair, their ongoing heated discussion a perfect distraction.

A smile spread across his face as he reached into his pocket. He waited until he was outside before giving into temptation. The exquisite scarab ring was very old and very much to his taste.

“Zephyr,” Ash whispered as he stepped outside, the curtains billowing around him. Scented oil from the hanging brass lanterns teased his senses, flickering flames danced in the breeze. The moon cast a soft glow as he walked the familiar path to the beach and dug his bare toes into the cool wet sand. Like so many nights before, he looked to the east towards the land of his birth. “Just a glimpse,” he said to himself in vain. A sad laugh bubbled from his lips. Even he was incapable of seeing across the Mediterranean.

“You're insatiable.” Christian laughed content to hold Jacob in his arms. The moon climbed higher providing intermittent beams of light in the tower. A slight breeze whistled through the treetops. Jacob leaned his head back to rest on Christian’s shoulder.
“Look, Ursa Major, and there, Cassiopeia.” Jacob pointed out the constellations in the autumn sky.
“Don’t forget the Little Bear.” Christian lifted Jacob's hand and traced the imaginary tail.
“I've stood here before but never have I enjoyed the view so much.” Jacob leaned into him.

Beautiful Deception.

Christian checked his pocket watch, not yet three thirty. He leaned down and roused Jacob from his slumber. “I must go. I won’t have your reputation spoiled. I promised myself I’d be gone before the cock crows.” He waggled his brows at the pun then kissed the sleep warm face. “I shall call at Literati, shall we say three?”  At Jacob’s nod he kissed him again then groaned, forcing himself from Jacob’s grasp.
